What Makes SPU Unique

Incredible Character Customization

Super Powers Unlimited allows unprecedented customization for your character, powers, and equipment. You won’t need to search through a long list of powers, weapons, or armors to find what you want. You create everything you need from scratch.

Compatible in All Genres, Locations, and Time Periods

You can play a fantasy story, with magic and dragons and supernatural creatures. You can play a futuristic sci-fi adventure through time and space. You can play in a real-world, modern day setting. You can mix, match, combine, and blend all of the above into the same story, too!

Ideal for Teamwork and Player-vs-Player

Work together to complete your quest — or battle player against player as you attempt to save (or take over) the world!

Are You Good or Evil?

Only you’ll know if you’re really a hero or villain. Double-cross your allies, infiltrate enemy bases, and form your own reputation. And thanks to the game’s Fame point system, you can even be an evil villain but look like a hero, or be a hero that the public believes is a villain.

Unique Money System

Sure, you can make money the traditional way: earn it or steal it. But in this game, you can also borrow the money you need — or invest your spare cash to earn free interest!

Play How You Want

Love fighting and battling all the time? This game’s combat system will make you more and more powerful. Want to solve puzzles and mysteries, explore uncharted territories, and find long lost treasure? You’ve got a variety of skills and talents to help you on your journey. Just want to role-play and interact socially with other characters? You can do that too!

You decide how strong, smart, courageous, enlightened, persuasive, seductive, and financially savvy your character is. You can invent your own custom super powers, weapons, armors, and gadgets. Be good or evil. Be part of a team, go solo, or battle with other players. It’s all under your control.

Download the Character Sheet

To create your own character, unique super powers, and custom gear, you’ll need to download the SPU Character Sheet.

Click here to download your character sheet now.

The character sheet is an Excel spreadsheet. If you don’t have Excel, you can use OpenOffice, a FREE alternative to Microsoft Office. This spreadsheet keeps track of all your character’s important information. Just fill in the blanks.

  • Any white space is safe for you to write in.
  • A blue space uses a special formula and will automatically calculate information for you.
DON’T write in any blue spaces.
  • A red space has a drop-down menu for you to select an option from.

While playing, you’ll need to reference your character sheet often. We recommend that you bring your laptop to the game, share another person’s computer, or print out your completed character sheet ahead of time and bring it with you.

What’s a Tabletop RPG?

New to tabletop role-playing games? Awesome! Click here to learn how to play this unique, imaginative, fun, and interactive type of game.

A tabletop role-playing game is unlike any other kind of game you’ve played. It’s not a video game, card game, or board game. It’s an interactive story where you get to be one of the lead characters.

To play this game, you need a few friends, our character sheet, dice, and your wild imagination.

One person, the leader, is called the “Story Master”. He or she tells an interactive story. All the other players (including you) pretend to be characters within that story, and act and make decisions accordingly. The Story Master will present the players will challenges, obstacles, puzzles, enemies, mysteries to solve, imaginary places to explore, quests or missions to complete, adventures to travel, and/or anything that can be told within a narrated, shared story.

The players, as their characters, get to travel, explore, and interact within this imaginary world. Based on their decisions and actions, the story can change. The Story Master is always updating the direction of the story and status of the world based on your decisions, actions, successes, and failures. So although the Story Master is the primary storyteller and in control of everything within this unfolding story, the players also have significant influence over the story’s events and direction.

All players take turns. The Story Master will set up a scene or problem. The first player decides what he/she wants to do, if anything.

You can simply “say” what your character does (like “I’m going inside to investigate” or “I’m attacking that player over there”). To make it even more fun, you can act and speak “as” your character (stand up, dramatically point across the room, and yell, “Look out! The aliens are coming!”). You can get into the role as much or as little as you want. This is a chance to be a kid again and use your imagination to play “pretend” in a fun, interactive, strategy-based game.

The best way to understand how to play a tabletop role-playing game is to actually play one and experience it. If this is your first time playing ever, it’s best to have at least one friend in the group with previous experience. If that’s not an option, just do your best and have fun. There’s no “wrong” way to play, as long as you’re all having fun!

The game also uses a “character sheet“, which keeps track of your character’s strengths, weaknesses, health, skills, powers, weapons, and so on. Using a simple “points” system, you get to decide exactly how good your character is with certain skills, how powerful and diverse your powers are, how much total health and life your character has, and more. This keeps the game balanced and fair, while still allowing you total customization over your character’s details.

There’s also some “random chance” involved in a lot of the game’s actions and events. You’ll need to roll special dice to determine the outcome. You’re probably familiar with the standard six-sided dice used in most board games. Tabletop role-playing games use a variety of dice with different numbers of sides. For example, you can have as small as a four-sided die (called a “D4″) to a twenty-sided die (“D20″), and even higher. You can usually find these special dice at most hobby shops and comic book stores. You can also find them online.

Beyond that, everything else is imagined, verbally described, and/or acted out. Even though it’s called a “tabletop” role-playing game, you technically don’t even need a table. All you need are a few friends who want to play.

Because it’s an interactive story, the “game” can go as long or as short as you want. Some games are paused after a few hours, and continued the next day or next week, and can go on indefinitely — as long as you want to keep playing. But if you just want to play for a single afternoon, that’s cool too. It’s all based on how long and detailed you want the story to be.

The best feature of this game is that your character can grow and evolve as time goes on. You can improve and upgrade anything about your character — his/her strengths, health, skills, super powers, fighting ability, whatever! Your character gains “experience” as you progress through the story, solve puzzles, defeat monsters, etc. Once you get enough experience, you “level up” and can enhance and improve your character even more.
